This is part of a study of Saddleworth, the area where I live. These pictures are of the Millstone Edge on the border of Saddleworth and can be accessed from the top of Standedge Cutting, where there is a free car park for access to the Pennine Way (part of the Crowden to Hebden Bridge section)…the path starts from a bridle path opposite the car park and then there is a fork off to a rough pathway which takes you to Millstone Edge. This is not the infamous Saddleworth Moor, but part of Marsden Moor. In the distance, near the two reservoirs, is the remains of Castleshaw Roman Fort, now just an indentation in a field. The fort was on the Roman Road between Chester and York and the crossing of the Pennines here has been important for millennia.
